Some personal information provided may be sensitive for example, physical health and the physical health of others who will be insured, motoring offences and other criminal convictions.

Personal information may be obtained by MMA Insurance plc directly from the person, from customer related transactions and from third parties via sources such as applications, transactions and consumer reporting agencies. Personal information may also be collected from claims with MMA Insurance plc as well as with other insurance companies.

All personal information supplied to MMA Insurance plc either directly or through a third party will be treated in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 as amended.

You have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information held about you. You also have the right to ask for inaccuracies in information to be corrected. A small fee may be charged.

You will need to write to the relevant third parties to obtain details regarding the information they may hold about you.

Protecting Personal Information

MMA Insurance plc employees have access to personal information in the course of doing their work. This includes administering policies, processing claims or developing new products. Employees are expected to keep this information confidential and only share the information with those who have a business reason to know. Employees are prohibited from making unauthorised disclosure of the personal information obtained. Employees who violate our privacy policy may be subject to disciplinary action.

MMA Insurance plc takes all reasonable measures to maintain the confidentiality and integrity of all personal information and guard against its unauthorised use.

Email messages sent over the Internet cannot be totally guaranteed to be completely secure as they can be intercepted, lost or corrupted. You are advised not to send personal information by email.

Disclosure of Information

Information may be disclosed to third parties including brokers, intermediaries, other insurance companies, reinsurers, regulators, and administrators to service and administer the business.

In addition information may be shared with other unaffiliated third parties that perform services on behalf of MMA Insurance plc, such as motor breakdown services, loss adjusters and legal protection services.

Information may also be disclosed as otherwise permitted or required by law.

Fraud Prevention and Detection

To prevent and detect fraud:

  • we will check your details with fraud prevention agencies
  • if you provide false or inaccurate information and we suspect fraud, we will record this
  • law enforcement agencies may access and use this information
  • we and other organisations may access and use information from other countries recorded by fraud prevention agencies
  • we and other organisations may use and search these records to:
    • check details on applications for credit and credit related services or other facilities.
    • manage credit and credit related accounts or facilities.
    • recover debt.
    • check details on proposals and claims for all types of insurance.

Telephone Calls

Telephone conversations may be monitored and recorded in order to improve service standards and ensure compliance with regulatory practices and internal procedures. Calls may also be monitored and recorded for staff training purposes.
